Trump’s Envoy Confirms Upcoming Meeting with Ukrainian Delegation in Saudi Arabia

Steve Witkoff, Trump’s Middle East envoy, has confirmed a meeting with a Ukrainian delegation in Saudi Arabia next week to discuss the Russo-Ukrainian war. This meeting marks a significant diplomatic effort, with both sides preparing to establish a framework for peace and a ceasefire.
Steve Witkoff, the Special Envoy to the Middle East appointed by US President Donald Trump, has confirmed upcoming discussions between Ukrainian and US delegations regarding the Russo-Ukrainian conflict. These negotiations are set to occur next week in Saudi Arabia, as reported by European Pravda.
Witkoff, responsible for Middle Eastern affairs, indicated prior experience in Russian negotiations, reinforcing the significance of the upcoming talks with Ukraine. He described a gesture from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy towards Trump as a “positive first step,” following a challenging meeting at the White House last week.
While the precise location for the discussions in Saudi Arabia remains flexible—potentially in Riyadh or possibly Jeddah—Witkoff affirmed, “The city is moving around a little bit, but it will be Saudi Arabia.” He also noted that Washington is defining the framework for a peace agreement and a ceasefire for Ukraine.
An anonymous Ukrainian official revealed that Andrii Yermak, the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, will lead the delegation, which might include Defence Minister Rustem Umierov. Reports suggest that US representatives will comprise Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Witkoff himself. Axios has indicated that this crucial meeting is slated for Wednesday, March 12.
In summary, the imminent meeting between US and Ukrainian delegations in Saudi Arabia presents a pivotal opportunity for discussions on the Russo-Ukrainian war. Witkoff’s confirmation and characterization of Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s overture as a “positive first step” signal a potential shift towards peace negotiations. The involvement of high-level officials from both sides underscores the meeting’s significance.
