Esteban Lazo Hernández of Cuba met with Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar, to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation. Lazo emphasized the historical friendship between Cuba and Tanzania. Additionally, Lazo held talks with Zubeir Ali Maulid to explore inter-parliamentary cooperation and also engaged with Cuban aid workers in Zanzibar.

Esteban Lazo Hernández, the President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and of the Council of State of Cuba, recently met with Hussein Ali Mwinyi, the President of Zanzibar, during his visit to the United Republic of Tanzania. This meeting took place at the Zanzibar State House, where Lazo Hernández emphasized the importance of strengthening historic bilateral relations, reflecting on the friendship between Fidel Castro and Julius Nyerere.

During the discussions, Lazo Hernández reiterated Cuba’s commitment to expanding collaboration and expressed gratitude towards Tanzania for its support in ending the U.S. blockade and Cuba’s removal from the list of “State Sponsors of Terrorism.” President Mwinyi reciprocated by extending greetings to Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and recognized the significant solidarity Cuba has shown to Africa, particularly in healthcare.

In addition to his meeting with President Mwinyi, Lazo Hernández engaged in official talks with Zubeir Ali Maulid, the head of the Zanzibar House of Representatives. The discussions focused on fostering inter-parliamentary cooperation, establishing friendship groups, and enhancing bilateral trade. He also met with Cuban healthcare workers in Zanzibar and toured the Biolarvicide Plant in Kibaha, a project where Cuban specialists contribute to malaria prevention.

This meeting underscores the ongoing commitment of Cuba and Zanzibar to strengthen their historical ties and enhance cooperation, especially in health care. President Mwinyi’s affirmation of Tanzania’s solidarity with Cuba highlights the mutual respect and support between the two nations. The discussions aim to foster collaboration and trade, further solidifying the partnership established between Cuba and Tanzania.
