Iraq’s AI Readiness: 12th in Arab World and 107th Globally for 2024

Iraq ranks 12th in the Arab world and 107th globally in the AI Readiness Index, scoring 40.91 out of 100. The index evaluates AI readiness across 40 indicators in government, technology, and infrastructure. The UAE leads the Arab region, while globally, the US is at the top. According to the Government AI Readiness Index for 2024 published by Oxford Insights, Iraq ranks 12th in the Arab world and 107th globally among 188 countries. This assessment evaluates AI readiness using 40 indicators categorized into three main pillars: government, technology sector, and data & infrastructure. Iraq received a score of 40.91 out of 100, with breakdowns of 32 for government readiness, 35.87 for the technology sector, and 54.25 for data and infrastructure.
The United Arab Emirates emerged as the leader in the Arab region with a notable score of 75.66, followed by Saudi Arabia with 72 points, Qatar at 68, Oman with 62, and Jordan at 61. Egypt holds the sixth position with 59 points, ahead of Bahrain (54), Kuwait (51), Lebanon (46), Tunisia (43), and Morocco (41).
On a global scale, the United States secured the top spot with an impressive score of 87, trailed by Singapore with 84 points and France with 79. In response to the need for AI integration, the Office of the Prime Minister’s Advisor announced the development of a national AI strategy in July 2024, emphasizing knowledge enhancement and AI adoption.
