At the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, a coalition consisting of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan issued a strong joint statement against the glorification of Nazi ideology. This condemnation comes as the world approaches the 80th anniversary of the conclusion of World War II, a conflict noted as the most devastating in history.
The statement, presented by Russian representative Evgeny Ustinov, emphasized, “We consider any attempt to glorify Nazis and their accomplices absolutely unacceptable.” It underlined that the major Nazi war criminals were designated as such by the verdict of the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg, affirming the atrocities committed, including the systematic extermination of civilians, which constitutes genocide against the peoples of the Soviet Union.
Additionally, the nations denounced any equivalency drawn between the responsibilities of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union for the war, labeling such assertions as “immoral and blasphemous.” This stance aims to honor the memory of the countless individuals who sacrificed their lives to dismantle the horrors wrought by Nazism.
