Makkah Conference Promotes Unity Among Muslim Leaders Worldwide

The second “Building Bridges Between Islamic Schools of Thought” conference convened in Makkah, under the patronage of King Salman, calling for global Muslim unity. Attended by Muslim leaders from over 90 countries, the event, organized by the Muslim World League, focuses on the theme “Towards an effective Islamic alliance.” Sessions addressed critical issues such as the situations in Palestine, Sudan, and Syria, along with concerns about Muslim minorities worldwide.
Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Asheikh, emphasized the pivotal role of Islamic scholars in fostering unity. In remarks delivered by Dr. Fahd Al-Majed, he encouraged a move towards compassion, trust, and brotherhood among Muslims. Sheikh Al-Asheikh insisted that the challenges facing the Islamic world should be viewed as opportunities for unification, rejecting extremism and division.
Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, head of the Muslim World League, reiterated the importance of managing diversity within the Islamic community. He noted that while differences exist, they should not hinder mutual understanding and respect. Al-Issa criticized stagnation in dialogue and underscored the need for practical initiatives to follow the groundwork established in the previous Ramadan meeting.
The conference will introduce initiatives based on the “Building Bridges” document, which has obtained formal approval from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. These initiatives are anticipated to enhance cooperation and solidarity in addressing shared concerns within the diverse Muslim community.
