The Bok Women’s Sevens team achieved impressive victories against Samoa and Poland in Cape Town, scoring a total of 88 points while conceding only 5. They will compete against Czechia for a final spot, showcasing their strong offensive play and solid teamwork throughout the matches.

The Bok Women’s Sevens team commenced their tournament in Cape Town with an emphatic victory and are set to face Czechia at 14:56 for a chance to reach the final. The second semi-final will feature Kenya, last weekend’s champions, against Colombia at 15:18.

Demonstrating focus and fluidity on attack, the South Africans netted three tries in the first half, establishing a commanding 21-0 lead. They further asserted their dominance by scoring four additional tries during the second half, showcasing their impressive performance against Samoa.

Despite the South African team’s overwhelming pace, Samoa managed to breach the green and gold defense once, when Machiko Silila Fepuleai executed a strong run down the touchline to score. Rights Mkhari initiated the scoring with an excellent run followed by Nadine Roos, who swiftly penetrated the Samoan defense. Zintle Mpupha subsequently completed the first-half scoring, securing a comfortable lead for South Africa.

The subsequent half continued with South African success; Roos and Mpupha each contributed to the score, while Fepuleai’s try brought the score to 33-5. The match concluded with additional tries from Ayanda Malinga and Shiniqwa Lamprecht, with Alicia Willemse converting for her first points at the international level.

In their next match against Poland, South Africa commenced with a relentless defensive display, forcing the Polish team into handling errors that the Bok Women skillfully capitalized on with organized and structured play. In the first five minutes, Roos and Maria Tshiremba each scored, followed by another try from Roos just before halftime, leading to a 19-0 advantage.

The second half reflected another well-executed attacking strategy with Roos playing a pivotal role. She collaborated effectively with Zintle Mpupha to breach the defense, and Tshiremba scored her second try from a set piece. Roos completed her hat-trick, securing 23 points, while Malinga added another try to wrap up the score at 43-0 against Poland.

The South African Women’s Sevens team delivered a commanding performance in their initial matches at the Cape Town tournament, winning decisively against Samoa and Poland. With a strong offensive strategy and cohesive teamwork, they are well positioned for their upcoming semi-final against Czechia. The Bok Women’s resilience and skill highlight their potential in the competition.
