The security minister of Buenos Aires province, Javier Alonso, highlighted the severity of the storm, noting that it surpassed the previously recorded rainfall in Bahia Blanca from 1930. Emergency measures included the closure of the local airport and power cuts to mitigate potential hazards from electrical shocks. The provincial government dispatched various means of assistance, including helicopters and ambulances equipped with food and water.
Local resident Flavia Viera Romero described her terrifying experience as floodwaters quickly engulfed her home, saying, “It was raining, and suddenly we saw the street was flooded. About a meter-and-a-half of water came into my house.” The extreme weather continues to threaten the area, with meteorological services on alert for potential additional storms.
