Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Mauritius on March 11-12 as the guest of honour for the 57th National Day celebrations. He is expected to meet key leaders, and Indian defence forces will participate in the celebrations. This visit highlights the strong bilateral relations between India and Mauritius.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Mauritius on March 11-12 to participate in the 57th National Day celebrations as the guest of honour. The announcement was made by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), confirming PM Modi’s attendance during the celebrations, which will take place on March 12, along with the participation of Indian defence forces and a naval ship.

During his visit, PM Modi is expected to engage with the President of Mauritius and hold meetings with his Mauritian counterpart and other significant leaders. This visit marks Modi’s return to Mauritius since his last trip in 2015. The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navin Ramgoolam, previously communicated details of the visit to parliament, expressing appreciation for Modi’s availability despite his busy schedule.

Mr. Ramgoolam emphasized the honor of hosting PM Modi, stating, “It is indeed a singular privilege for our country, to host such a distinguished personality… The visit of Shri Modi is a testimony of the close relations between our two nations.” PM Modi has reiterated India’s steadfast commitment to its enduring partnership with Mauritius, describing it as “special” and “unique.”

In July 2024, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited Mauritius, marking one of his first international trips since assuming office. During this visit, he engaged with Mauritian leaders on key bilateral issues, including development partnerships, defence, and economic cooperation. Jaishankar also inaugurated 12 community development projects focusing on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other public services.

PM Modi’s forthcoming visit to Mauritius underscores the strong bilateral relations between India and Mauritius. His participation in the National Day celebrations as guest of honour emphasizes the significance of this partnership. The engagement also reflects India’s ongoing commitment to enhancing cooperation in various sectors, which has been a consistent focus in diplomatic interactions between the two nations.
