Tunisia is set to elevate its phosphate production to 14 million tonnes annually by the year 2030. This initiative was discussed during a cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Kamel Madouri, focusing on the phosphate sector’s strategy for the period from 2025 to 2030, according to a report by the TAP state news agency.

During the meeting, an initial program covering production, transportation, and processing was approved, along with the establishment of monitoring mechanisms to ensure effective implementation. Among the key decisions made were the enhancement of sulfuric acid units and the launch of a maintenance program for heavy machinery and trucks.

The plan includes establishing an industrial unit in Skhira for producing finely ground single superphosphate and granulated calcium phosphate with an annual capacity of 250,000 tonnes. Furthermore, a new unit for producing purified phosphoric acid will have a capacity of 60,000 tonnes, along with a cadmium removal facility in M’dhilla designed to purify phosphoric acid, which will operate at an annual capacity of 180,000 tonnes.

Additionally, Tunisia is pursuing the development of green ammonia projects and offering tax incentives to bolster these initiatives. These advancements are part of the country’s broader vision to enhance its phosphate sector significantly.
