The controversy arises from India playing all its matches at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, whereas other teams were required to travel between various cities, amplifying claims of an unfair competitive edge. Junaid notably highlighted the contrasting travel distances, stating that New Zealand has traveled 7,150 kilometers, South Africa 3,286 kilometers, while India has not traveled at all.
Junaid emphasized the scheduling aspect of the Champions Trophy as a significant contributor to India’s success in the tournament, posting the following comparison on social media: “Distance travelled between matches in Champions Trophy 2025: New Zealand: 7,150 KM – South Africa: 3,286 KM – India: 0 KM. Some teams win by skill, some win by scheduling…”.
Prior to these allegations, India’s coach Gautam Gambhir responded to the venue advantage claims by reaffirming that his team has been practicing at the ICC Academy, which offers different conditions than the stadium used for matches. He dismissed the allegations as unfounded, remarking, “Kaunsi undue advantage? (What undue advantage?) We practice at ICC Academy, where conditions are different from what we get here at the stadium. Some people are perpetual cribbers; they need to grow up.”
