Kenya Defence Forces Achieve Remarkable Success at Kenya Open Fullbore Championship

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) achieved multiple titles at the 86th Kenya Open Fullbore Championship in Nanyuki, with notable performances by Warrant Officer Class 2 Wilberforce Kerema and Senior Sergeant Brenda Ojiambo. The championship featured various awards and tested marksmanship at diverse distances. KDF will also send ten representatives to compete in the Bisley competition in the UK.

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) excelled during the 86th Kenya Open Fullbore Championship, winning various titles on its concluding day held at the Laikipia KDF Range in Nanyuki. The event featured 64 elite shooters, representing various forces, including the KDF Rifle Association and the British Royal Air Force, and aimed at enhancing marksmanship efficiency over distances from 300 to 900 meters.

Competitors vied for several prestigious awards, such as the McCallum Cup and the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup. They had a limited time of 45 seconds to perform critical long-range shooting tasks, adjusting for wind conditions while aiming for accuracy. The challenges tested the shooters’ skills and tactical responses under pressure.

Warrant Officer Class 2 Wilberforce Kerema emerged as a prominent figure, securing victories in the Standard Newspaper Cup, Stuart Wortley Cup, and Short Range Aggregate Cup, as well as a bronze in the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup. Other notable performances included Senior Sergeant Brenda Ojiambo winning silver in the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup.

KDF also celebrated the achievements of Staff Sergeant Joyce Chebii and Staff Sergeant Brenda Ojiambo, both recognized as the tournament’s top female shooters. Additionally, ten KDF personnel have been selected to represent Kenya in the Bisley competition in the United Kingdom scheduled for later this year.
