Pakistan and Egypt Strengthen Ties in Politics, Defense, and Trade at OIC
Pakistan and Egypt have agreed to enhance their political, defense, cultural, and economic ties during a meeting at the OIC conference on Palestine. Pakistan and Egypt have committed to enhancing their political, defense, cultural, and economic relations, as articulated during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. This discussion took place on the sidelines of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conference on Palestine. Over the years, both nations have bolstered their bilateral ties through initiatives such as annual consultations that emphasize cooperation in trade, investment, and cultural exchanges.
In November 2022, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the COP27 climate summit, advocating for climate compensation and debt relief following the catastrophic floods that struck Pakistan. During the recent meeting, both Dar and Abdelatty expressed their satisfaction with the positive trajectory of their nations’ relationships. They recognized the multifaceted bond that is built on mutual beliefs, values, and cultural ties, agreeing to further elevate their political, defense, and economic collaboration, as well as to improve people-to-people connections.
Furthermore, the officials discussed shared regional and global concerns, expressing their distress regarding the ongoing violence in the West Bank and the situation in Gaza. Dar acknowledged Egypt’s significant role in delivering humanitarian assistance to Palestinians and its efforts toward mediating a temporary ceasefire. Both leaders reiterated their opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians, affirming that a sustainable resolution lies in establishing a viable Palestinian state based on the pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif designated as its capital.
Dar extended an invitation to Abdelatty to visit Pakistan at a mutually agreeable time. He also met with OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha to discuss prevailing challenges faced by the Muslim community and appreciate the OIC’s role in fostering unity among Muslim nations. Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister met with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki, reaffirming Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and the advocacy for a viable Palestinian state.
