In a thrilling semifinal of the ATP Rwanda Challenger 100, fourth seed Valentin Royer advanced to the finals by defeating Dutch player Max Houkes with a score of 7-6(7), 6-2. This victory sets Royer on a path for consecutive titles, as he previously won the ATP Rwanda Challenger 75 the prior week. He excelled in the match, maintaining his performance despite a competitive first set before dominating the second.
Royer will compete against fellow Dutch player Guy Den Ouden, who reached the final after defeating French qualifier Luka Pavlovic with scores of 6-3, 6-4. Den Ouden’s route to the final included an unexpected advancement past second seed Calvin Hemery due to injury during the quarterfinals. This marks Den Ouden’s first ATP Challenger final of the season.
As Royer prepares to extend his winning streak in Kigali, he aims for a second ATP Challenger title in successive weeks against Den Ouden. Additionally, in doubles, India’s Siddhant Banthia and Bulgaria’s Alexander Dosnki triumphed over France’s Geoffrey Blancaneaux and Czech partner Zdenek Kolar, securing the title with a three-set victory of 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 in a closely contested final.
