A special warning issued by the National Weather Service noted that adverse weather conditions in New York City and Long Island—including low relative humidity of 30% and strong northwest winds of 30 to 35 miles per hour—have significantly accelerated the fires’ spread.

Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for Suffolk County, Long Island, in response to the wildfires. She confirmed that all necessary resources and support have been provided to the Suffolk County Executive. Governor Hochul also stated that helicopter crews from the New York National Guard have been assigned to assist ground firefighters, while state agencies continue to respond to these emergencies.
