Hezbollah Leader Reiterates Need for Iran-Lebanon Flights Amid Regional Tensions

Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem has reiterated the necessity of reinstating the suspended flights between Iran and Lebanon, regarding this move as crucial for bolstering bilateral relations. During an interview with Al-Manar TV, he expressed determination to work with the Lebanese government to facilitate the resumption of these flights, which were suspended in February.
The halt in flights was initiated after Israeli military allegations suggested that these routes were being utilized to transport supplies to Hezbollah. Additionally, it has been reported that the United States exerted pressure on Lebanon to prolong the ban. Analysts have posited that this suspension aims to isolate Hezbollah and limit Iranian participation in the funeral services for Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and his deputy, Sayyed Hashim Safieddine.
While the newly appointed Lebanese authorities cited “European sanctions” as the reason for the cancellations, they failed to clarify how these sanctions, which primarily target Iran, apply legally to Lebanon. Sheikh Qassem highlighted the significance of Iranian solidarity during the funerals, where large numbers of people from Iran crossed borders to pay their respects.
He remarked, “Even as roads were blocked, Iranians poured in to honor our martyrs.” Furthermore, the Hezbollah leader issued a grave warning to both the U.S. and Israel, asserting that “Any military adventurism against Iran will unleash catastrophic consequences across the region.”
High-ranking Iranian officials, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, participated in the funeral ceremonies, strengthening Tehran’s ties with Lebanese Resistance. Following the commemorations, they held discussions with Sheikh Qassem, reinforcing the collaborative stance between the two nations.
