Investigation of Ismail Sabri: MACC Questions 32 Individuals in Probe

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has questioned 32 individuals in relation to a money laundering investigation concerning former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, revealing over RM170 million in various forms. Further inquiries and documentation are awaited, with additional individuals being summoned. Ismail Sabri’s follow-up questioning has been postponed due to health issues.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has conducted interviews with 32 individuals as part of an investigation involving former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. This money laundering inquiry has revealed approximately RM170 million in various currencies and gold stored in multiple locations. Additionally, 23 more individuals are expected to provide their statements, with four others returning for further questioning.

In its investigation, the MACC requested bank records from several financial institutions and is currently awaiting their responses. Ismail Sabri was originally scheduled to provide a second statement on March 5; however, due to illness, this was postponed to March 7. He subsequently submitted another medical certificate extending his sick leave until March 12.

In response to these delays, the MACC has sought information from Ismail Sabri’s doctor to evaluate the severity of his health issues. The former Prime Minister was previously questioned for five hours at the MACC headquarters on March 1 regarding significant funds allocated for promotional activities during his leadership from 2021 to 2022, after which he was hospitalized following a health incident.

Tan Sri Azam Baki, the Chief Commissioner of MACC, has stated that Ismail Sabri is a suspect in the investigation and is expected to account for the assets he declared in February 2025.
