Morocco recorded nearly 2.7 million tourist arrivals by February, a 24% increase from the previous year. February itself logged 1.4 million visitors, driven by foreign tourists and Moroccan expatriates. The country exceeded its 2024 tourism goal two years early, with ongoing initiatives to enhance tourism further.

Morocco has experienced a significant upsurge in its tourism sector, welcoming nearly 2.7 million arrivals by the end of February, marking a notable 24% increase compared to the same timeframe in the previous year. This translates to an additional 521,000 visitors, predominantly from vital source markets, as provided by data from the Ministry of Tourism.

February has been particularly productive, with nearly 1.4 million arrivals, reflecting a 22% increase with an additional 248,000 visitors relative to February of the previous year. The upturn is attributed to both foreign tourists, who increased by 18% (119,000 entries), and Moroccans residing abroad, whose numbers surged by 26% (130,000 entries).

Fatim-Zahra Ammor, the Minister of Tourism, emphasized the significance of this growth, stating, “Adding half a million visitors in just two months underlines Morocco’s place among the world’s leading destinations.” Furthermore, she remarked, “Every visitor who chooses Morocco plays a direct role in boosting our regions’ economies, creating jobs, and supporting youth inclusion. This growth benefits the entire ecosystem and reflects the ongoing success of Morocco’s tourism strategy.”

Morocco has surpassed its tourism target by achieving 17.4 million visitors by the end of 2024, accomplishing this milestone two years ahead of the original goal set for 2026. As tourism is increasingly recognized as a fundamental pillar of Morocco’s economy, the Ministry of Tourism and the Moroccan Tourism Office (ONMT) are committed to enhancing and revitalizing the sector.

Efforts to continue this upward trend include various initiatives aimed at collaboration with global travel agencies and airlines, ensuring that Morocco continues to attract tourists through organic growth and strategic alliances.

In summary, Morocco’s tourism sector is flourishing, with nearly 2.7 million arrivals recorded by February, showcasing a 24% rise. This growth is driven by both international visitors and Moroccans abroad. The country has exceeded its tourism projections, achieving 17.4 million visitors well ahead of the 2026 target. Continued investment and strategic partnerships in the tourism sector are essential for sustaining this momentum.
