Libya’s Justice Ministry Reviews International Prisoner Exchange Agreements

The Permanent Committee for Monitoring the Conditions and Issues of Libyan Prisoners Abroad convened its inaugural meeting of the year, presided over by Minister of Justice Halima Ibrahim. The assembly focused on exploring various draft memorandums of understanding and prisoner exchange agreements, engaging with nations including China and Ethiopia.
According to the Our Government platform, the committee is actively reviewing ongoing negotiations with several countries. This includes discussions prompted by the recent visit of the Ministry of Justice’s Deputy General to nations such as Lebanon, Egypt, Malta, Tunisia, and Turkey, aimed at facilitating the repatriation of Libyan prisoners to complete their sentences in Libya.
Additionally, the committee emphasized the development of a comprehensive database cataloging all prisoners in countries where the Ministry has established legal attachés, with plans to extend this database to encompass a broader range of countries, as reported by Our Government.
