PM Modi Commences Two-Day Visit to Mauritius to Inaugurate Key Projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Mauritius for a two-day state visit, where he will serve as the chief guest in the nation’s national day celebrations and engage with key leaders. Modi highlighted his anticipation of a “new and bright” chapter in India-Mauritius relations prior to his departure.
Upon arrival, he was greeted warmly by Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam and other high-ranking officials, including the Deputy Prime Minister, Chief Justice, and several Cabinet Ministers. The welcoming committee featured around 200 dignitaries, emphasizing the importance of this visit.
During this visit, several agreements will be signed to enhance cooperation in areas such as capacity building, trade, and efforts against cross-border financial crimes, as invited by Prime Minister Ramgoolam.
Modi is set to meet with the President of Mauritius, engage in discussions with the Prime Minister, and connect with senior leaders and the Indian community. He will also inaugurate the Civil Service College and the Area Health Centre, both funded by India’s grant assistance.
A notable aspect of Modi’s visit is the inauguration of over 20 India-funded projects aimed at bolstering community infrastructure and capacity building. This initiative includes major infrastructure projects designed to reinforce democracy within the country.
The Civil Service College building, which will be inaugurated by Modi and Ramgoolam, was built at an estimated cost of USD 4.75 million, with a Memorandum of Understanding signed back in 2017. Additionally, Modi will e-inaugurate the Area Health Centre and several community projects, totaling around INR 7 crores and including sports-related infrastructure.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Mauritius marks a significant stride in strengthening bilateral ties through a series of agreements and the inauguration of key infrastructure projects.
