A severe rainy season in Bolivia has resulted in the tragic loss of 40 lives and left seven individuals missing since its onset in November. Authorities, including Deputy Minister of Civil Defence Juan Carlos Calvimontes, have issued warnings indicating that the fatality count may increase due to recent landslides in La Paz that have severely damaged numerous homes.

To mitigate further casualties, officials have mandated a full evacuation of the affected area in La Paz and cautioned residents to refrain from entering zones at risk of additional landslides. As of the latest updates, approximately 163,193 families have been displaced or rendered homeless, predominantly in the La Paz department, as per the civil defence report.

The impacts of the extreme weather have affected 105 municipalities across the country, with 37 of these regions officially declaring a state of disaster due to the ongoing flooding and its repercussions.

The ongoing rainy season in Bolivia has led to significant devastation, with a considerable death toll and widespread displacement. Authorities continue to take preventive measures to protect residents from further hazards, particularly in landslide-prone areas. The situation requires ongoing monitoring and support for the affected populations as the rains persist.
