In their correspondence, DPK invoked the Termination Clause (8) of the coalition agreement, thereby making their exit effective within 30 days. “Kindly take notice that our stay in Kenya Kwanza Coalition is no longer tenable due to the prevailing political developments,” the letter specified. Additionally, copies of the letter were sent to relevant authorities, including the Registrar of Political Parties and the leadership of other coalition parties.
Muturi’s departure from the coalition coincides with his vocal criticism of the government, particularly following the abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi, in June 2024. The Public Service Cabinet Secretary has spoken out regarding the alarming trend of enforced disappearances in the country, bringing his personal experiences of trauma into the national discourse. “I have personally suffered as my son was abducted, leaving my family in turmoil,” Muturi expressed.
Despite the National Police Service distancing itself from the incident, President William Ruto’s allies have accused Muturi of politicizing the situation, suggesting that his criticisms are linked to ambitions for the upcoming 2027 elections. Senator Wahome Wamatinga described his statements as politically motivated, while UDA MP Reuben Kiborek criticized Muturi’s public outbursts, suggesting they should be raised privately within the cabinet.

I trust in God,” he stated, alluding to ongoing discussions regarding his position within the government.
