Gambia Seeks Support from Bangladesh in Genocide Case Against Myanmar

Gambia’s Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara met with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus to discuss Gambia’s ongoing genocide case against Myanmar regarding the persecution of the Rohingya Muslims. Both leaders emphasized the need for international support and collaboration on aid efforts, trade, and peacekeeping initiatives.
On Wednesday, Gambian Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara met with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus to discuss Gambia’s genocide case against Myanmar concerning the Rohingya Muslims. Tangara emphasized the Gambian President’s dedication to this cause, stating, “We want to put this issue back on the map.” The Gambian government is committed to pursuing justice for the Rohingya people who have faced severe persecution.
Prof Yunus expressed gratitude towards Gambia for their relentless efforts in advocating for the Rohingya. He stated, “We want this case to succeed. We want your support. It is a big help for us.” This dialogue highlights the importance of international collaboration in the pursuit of justice and humanitarian aid for the affected communities.
Tangara commended Prof Yunus’s leadership and diplomatic capabilities, asserting that his influence would garner international support for the Rohingya cause. He remarked, “You are a household name in Gambia. With your aura, the International community will always be with you.” The Foreign Minister also extended well wishes to Prof Yunus in his new role as the head of Bangladesh’s Interim Government.
During the meeting, Prof Yunus underlined the importance of mobilizing aid for the Rohingya and advocating for humanitarian assistance in Rakhine State. He called for collaboration in aid efforts to alleviate the crisis and prevent further displacement across borders. Additionally, he initiated discussions on enhancing trade and cooperation between Gambia and Bangladesh.
The leaders were pleased to finalize an agreement to collaborate on United Nations peacekeeping operations. They also explored the potential of microcredit initiatives to eradicate poverty and foster stability in Africa’s conflict-affected regions. Dr Khalilur Rahman and Lamiya Morshed were also present at this significant meeting.
