Shri Birla emphasized India’s commitment to supporting neighboring nations, particularly in providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief. He highlighted India’s involvement in development projects in Madagascar, reflecting the dedication to mutual progress. Furthermore, he acknowledged the Indian Diaspora’s role in reinforcing ties and noted the success of the initial “Jaipur Foot Camp” in Madagascar, where numerous individuals received artificial limbs.

Referring to India’s status as the world’s largest democracy, Shri Birla discussed the importance of democratic values in the nation’s heritage. He noted the increase in voter participation since 1952, culminating in a 66% turnout during the 2024 general elections, exemplifying citizens’ engagement. Additionally, he briefed the delegation on the Indian Parliament’s operations and the Budget Session process.

Shri Birla expressed his desire for capacity-building initiatives through the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE), aiming to enhance Madagascar’s parliamentary capabilities. He proposed tailored training programs and encouraged regular exchanges between the two countries’ parliamentary members.

In response, H.E. Mr. Justin Tokely conveyed gratitude for the hospitality received from the Indian Parliament, acknowledging India’s significant advancements in technology and economic growth.
