The sixth edition of the Nedbank for Good Series commenced with positive engagement, featuring the concurrently held Nedbank Ladies Central Open at Omeya Golf Club. Conducted on March 8 and 9, the events showcased substantial participation, as confirmed by the organizers. The Ladies Open attracted 26 senior and six junior golfers, while the overall series welcomed 106 participants.

Tashia Kalondo, the newly appointed Secretary of the Namibia Amateur Ladies Golf Union (NALGU), praised the strategic union of the two tournaments, noting it provided an excellent competitive platform for the ladies to demonstrate their abilities. She highlighted the significance of nurturing youth in golf, citing the need for new talent given the current average age of female players in Namibia is 40 years, which poses challenges for international competition.

Dan Zwiebel, founder of DZ Golf and an organizer of the series, supported Kalondo’s sentiments. He remarked that this collaboration marked a first for the series and presented opportunities for closer association with NALGU in upcoming events. In the competitive realm, Douglas Holtzhausen emerged victorious in the men’s division, scoring 39 points, with Dieter Schrywer and Braam Vermeulen following closely behind.

In the women’s division, Wilna Bredenhann secured victory with 43 points, trailed by Kalondo and Mariena Ludwig. Bredenhann also clinched the overall title for both events with a gross score of 169. Other notable mentions included Doulaine Holtzhausen in second place with a gross score of 173 and Brenda Lens achieving the overall net of 147 shots.

Additional awards celebrated the achievements of Mary-Ann Boltmann, the best gross winner in the A Division, and Anecia le Grange, recognized for the best net score. Meanwhile, Kalondo won the C Division with 73 points, demonstrating the diversity of talent present at the competitions.

Biniam Ghirmatsion, Nedbank Namibia’s Executive for Wealth Management and Bancassurance, expressed enthusiasm over the successful execution of the weekend’s events. He reiterated the bank’s commitment to championing women’s sports while urging corporate partners to invest in women’s golf development. This year’s proceeds are designated for Agra ProVision, which aims to assist underserved agricultural communities.

The sixth installment of the Nedbank for Good Series not only marked a successful event for participants but also underscored the commitment to promoting women’s golf in Namibia. The enthusiastic turnout and collaborative efforts between the Nedbank Ladies Central Open and NALGU signify progress in enhancing the sport and developing future talent. The consistent support of corporate entities like Nedbank plays a critical role in sustaining these initiatives.
