Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of Nepal has reached out to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil, requesting assistance for the release of Bipin Joshi, a Nepali student taken hostage by Hamas. During their telephone conversation, Oli emphasized the need for President Khalil to facilitate Joshi’s safe and prompt return, as Joshi had been in Israel participating in a ‘Learn and Earn’ program at the time of his abduction.

Oli expressed appreciation for the prioritization of Joshi’s name among those to be released in the negotiations between Hamas and Israel, which began following the attack on October 7, 2023. He recognized Egypt’s pivotal role and conveyed Nepal’s support for the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, extending gratitude to both Qatar and the United States for their contributions to this humanitarian effort.

Additionally, Prime Minister Oli extended an invitation to President Khalil to attend the upcoming Sagarmatha Dialogue, scheduled to take place in Kathmandu from May 16 to 18. He highlighted the importance of collaboration on climate change issues, especially given Nepal’s hosting of the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-27), and discussed other potential areas of mutual interest such as high-level visits and relations between Nepal and Egypt.
