Colombia’s avocados will now be available year-round in the U.S., with a notable increase in volumes anticipated for 2025. The transition to continuous supply is driven by proximity to the U.S. market and increased focus on quality production, enhancing market stability and attractiveness for retail partners. GreenFruit Avocados will showcase offerings at the CPMA tradeshow in Montreal.

Colombia is set to ensure year-round availability of avocados in the United States, with Andrew Gomez from GreenFruit Avocados noting the impressive volumes being imported. He emphasizes that for the first time, substantial amounts of Colombian avocados were shipped during traditionally lower volume months, enhancing market supply amid reduced imports from Mexico due to tariff complications.

Looking ahead, expectations for the 2025 avocado crop from Colombia are optimistic, with estimates suggesting a 25 to 30 percent increase in volume compared to 2024. This surge in production will primarily supply the U.S. market, as proximity favors shipments there. Additionally, market dynamics suggest that increased exports to Europe from Peru could result in Colombia focusing more on the U.S. as its main export destination.

Colombia’s primary avocado harvest, known as Traviesa, will initiate in April, coinciding with the arrival of the first shipments to the U.S. This main harvest is anticipated to extend through August or September, followed by a smaller harvest ensuring continuous availability. Gomez underlines that the maturation of Colombia’s avocado production over the past seven years brings a welcomed stability to the market, which is crucial for retail partners. The establishment of promotional long-term pricing this year marks a significant development for the industry.

Over the past five years, the quality of Colombian avocados has markedly improved, attributed largely to growers’ commitment to quality and favorable weather conditions. Gomez highlights the positive impact of these efforts, leading to better handling and higher quality fruits entering the market.

The GreenFruit team will present their offerings at the upcoming CPMA tradeshow in Montreal, where they look forward to discussing programs and forging new connections. Attendees are encouraged to visit booth 2418 for more information.

In summary, Colombia is poised to provide avocados to the U.S. year-round, with increased volumes expected in 2025 and continuous support for retail partners through stable pricing. The commitment to quality and positive environmental conditions have contributed to significant advancements in avocado production. The upcoming CPMA tradeshow presents an opportunity for industry engagement and promotion of these developments.
