Bishop Vera described the cyclone’s impact as a “night of terror” in a conversation with ACN, noting that many chapels, schools, and pastoral centers were left without roofs. “The destruction is very extensive. Around half of the mud houses in the 10 districts of the Diocese of Nacala were damaged,” he reported. With winds reaching 100 to 150 kilometers per hour, the heavy rains exacerbated the situation, leading to the destruction of vital bridges that severed communication in affected regions.
