Deadly RSF Attack in El Fasher: Casualties and Ongoing Conflict in Sudan

In a tragic incident in El Fasher, North Darfur State, at least 10 individuals were killed and 23 others injured due to shelling by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) reported that the RSF targeted residential areas and a shelter center using 37 rounds of 120-mm artillery. Tragically, among the deceased was a three-year-old girl, while many of the injured required urgent medical care.
Additionally, the RSF attempted airstrikes on vital locations within El Fasher using drones. However, the SAF successfully intercepted and destroyed these drones, preventing further damage. The RSF has not yet provided any comments regarding this recent attack, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
El Fasher has experienced severe conflicts between the SAF and RSF since May 10 of the previous year, contributing to the ongoing turmoil in Sudan. Since mid-April 2023, this conflict has resulted in approximately 29,683 deaths and displaced over 15 million people, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data and the International Organization for Migration’s assessments.
