Egypt and Jordan Express Approval of Trump’s Stance on Gaza Palestinians

Egypt and Jordan welcome President Trump’s comments against the expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza. His statement marks a potential shift from earlier controversial proposals regarding Gaza. Additionally, Arab states submitted an alternative reconstruction plan for Gaza, seeking to address post-war recovery and governance.
Egypt and Jordan have expressed their approval of U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments asserting that no Palestinians would be expelled from the Gaza Strip. This statement raises questions about whether it signifies a change in Trump’s earlier proposal to gain control of Gaza, where he had suggested transforming it into the “Riviera of the Middle East,” coupled with the withdrawal of Palestinian residents to Jordan and Egypt, which the two nations flatly opposed.
President Trump stated, “Nobody will expel the Palestinians,” when questioned about the potential discussion of Palestinian expulsion in a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin. Egypt’s foreign ministry conveyed appreciation for Trump’s remarks on the matter, recognizing his stance against expulsion. Similarly, Jordan’s foreign ministry welcomed the President’s statements while emphasizing the necessity for a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.
Trump’s apparent change of heart was positively received in Gaza, as noted by Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem. Hussein al-Sheikh from the Palestine Liberation Organisation also acknowledged Trump’s statements, indicating gratitude for the affirmation that Gaza’s residents will remain in their homeland. Recently, Arab nations outlined an alternative approach to Trump’s controversial expulsion plan, led by Egypt, proposing a $53 billion budget and five-year plan for rebuilding Gaza after extensive conflict damage. This initiative was embraced on Saturday by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and received support from several European countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy.
The recent statements by President Trump, affirming that no Palestinians will be expelled from Gaza, received a warm welcome from Egypt and Jordan as well as various Palestinian officials. This shift in position could suggest a reconsideration of earlier proposals concerning Gaza’s governance and the wellbeing of its residents. The leadership from Arab nations has also introduced an alternative reconstruction plan, highlighting ongoing efforts for peace and stability in the region.
