Halimah Nakaayi is the only athlete representing Uganda at the World Indoor Athletics Championship in Nanjing from March 21-23. President of UAF, Dominic Otuchet, noted that other qualified athletes faced challenges due to adverse weather in Europe. Nakaayi is the current Ugandan record holder in the women’s 800m and won gold in 2019 at the World Championships in Doha.

Halimah Nakaayi, a distinguished female athlete, will represent Uganda as the sole competitor at the upcoming World Indoor Athletics Championship, which is scheduled for March 21-23 in Nanjing, China. Dominic Otuchet, the President of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF), confirmed this decision, noting that Nakaayi is the only athlete who qualified for the 800m race.

Otuchet expressed disappointment regarding the limited representation, explaining, “We had hopes to have as many athletes qualify for the championships in China, but unfortunately some of them failed to perform well because of the cold conditions in different races in Europe.” Nakaayi, aged 30, holds the record for the women’s 800m in Uganda and previously secured a gold medal in the same distance at the 2019 World Championships held in Doha, Qatar.

In conclusion, Halimah Nakaayi will stand as Uganda’s lone representative at the World Indoor Athletics Championship in Nanjing. The Uganda Athletics Federation expressed a desire for a larger delegation, but challenges faced by other athletes led to Nakaayi’s singular qualification. Nakaayi’s impressive achievements further highlight her capabilities in the 800m event.
