A bomb explosion at São Paulo’s Pinheiros Terminal prompted a manhunt for two suspects, with no injuries reported. The Communist Party of Brazil denied involvement despite politically charged pamphlets found. A second bomb was later discovered and detonated by authorities. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the motives behind these attacks.

On Wednesday, a bomb exploded at the Pinheiros Terminal in São Paulo, Brazil, leading police to initiate a manhunt for two suspects. Surveillance footage captured one individual placing a bag with the explosive near several people before quickly leaving the scene. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, although parts of the bus terminal were closed for safety.

The explosion propelled pamphlets reportedly linked to the Communist Party of Brazil into the air, displaying slogans such as “Death to the fascists! Long live Maoism!” Nevertheless, the Party has denied any connection to this incident, asserting that it has no involvement with the bombings.

A second bomb was discovered at the terminal an hour following the initial explosion. A bomb squad utilized X-ray equipment to assess the second device prior to safely detonating it, which did not contain any pamphlets. Authorities are examining both bombs to establish their construction and motives behind the bombings remain unclear.

In a statement, the São Paulo chapter of the Communist Party emphasized its detachment from the explosive devices and accused far-right factions of orchestrating similar acts in the past. They reiterated their disapproval and stressed their innocence in regards to the attack and the purported letter associated with it.

The incident at the Pinheiros Terminal underscores a pressing security concern in Brazil, especially regarding politically motivated attacks. Despite the inclusion of politically charged pamphlets, the Communist Party of Brazil has denied involvement, instead suggests these acts are a diversion by opposing groups. As investigations continue, authorities are diligently seeking to confirm the motives of the assailants and further ensure public safety.
