Yango Expands Its Presence in Cameroon, Creating Jobs and Future Opportunities

Yango claims to have created over 6,000 jobs in Cameroon since 2021. The service operates in Douala, Yaoundé, and now Bafoussam, with plans for further expansion. Yango’s goal is to enhance mobility and contribute to economic development. Despite earlier challenges, it has a significant user base and aims to become a key player in the transport sector.
Yango, the ride-hailing service under the Russian tech company Yandex, asserts the creation of over 6,000 jobs in Cameroon since its launch in 2021. Clovis Pilla, Yango’s Country Manager in Cameroon, remarks that the platform is an essential component in the country’s digital and economic advancement, stating that “more than 150 Cameroonian transport companies work with us, creating even more job opportunities.”
Yango commenced operations in Douala and Yaoundé, recently extending its services to Bafoussam, the capital of the West region, on March 5, 2025. This expansion reflects the company’s goal to offer “efficient and affordable” transport solutions throughout Cameroon, anticipating further job creation in the process.
The Bafoussam launch marks merely the beginning of Yango’s broader strategy. The company has renewed its operating license for an additional five years, intending to enhance its presence in more cities. Pilla indicated that “over the next five years, we plan to expand to additional cities, introduce new services, and strengthen our integration with digital financial solutions,” although he did not specify the upcoming cities.
Since its introduction nearly four years ago, Yango has garnered a significant user base, presently hosting over 150,000 monthly active users. Despite encountering challenges, including a seven-month suspension due to licensing issues, Yango resumed operations and is steadfast in its ambitions within Cameroon— a country it views as possessing “strong potential.”
With operations spanning 20 countries across Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, Yango is focused on becoming a “key player” in Cameroon’s transportation sector. The company aims to enhance urban mobility in the country, particularly where public transport options are often inadequate.
In summary, Yango continues to establish a significant presence in Cameroon, having created over 6,000 jobs since its launch in 2021. With its expansion into Bafoussam and plans for future growth, the company is committed to improving transportation services and urban mobility across the nation. Despite previous challenges, Yango is poised to strengthen its role in the local economy and become a crucial component of Cameroon’s transport sector.
