Doyo Hassani Doyo has formally announced his candidacy for the presidency of Tanzania in 2025, challenging incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Dorothy Semu. Doyo outlines key priorities such as tackling unemployment, enhancing education, and fighting corruption. His wife expressed full support, emphasizing the need for accountability in leadership. The NLD’s internal nomination process will occur in April 2025 ahead of the elections.

Doyo Hassani Doyo, a member of the Nation League for Democracy (NLD), has officially announced his intention to run for the presidency of Tanzania in the October 2025 General Election. His candidacy comes as a challenge to the incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who has been endorsed by the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party for re-election, and to the leader of the ACT-Wazalendo party, Dorothy Semu.

During his announcement in Morogoro on March 14, 2025, Mr. Doyo laid out ten key priorities for his campaign, which prominently include addressing unemployment, promoting education, and revolutionizing the agriculture and livestock sectors. He emphasized the need for improved water resource management, measures to reduce tax evasion, and combating corruption through increased accountability.

Mr. Doyo articulated, “I have announced my intention to run for president in the forthcoming General Election. My priorities reflect the challenges our nation is facing.” He added that strengthening the mining sector, enhancing access to technology, promoting education for girls, and fostering a productive private sector are also pivotal elements of his platform.

Support for Mr. Doyo’s bid was voiced by his wife, Halima Rajabu, who praised him as both hardworking and devoutly principled. She highlighted employment as a vital concern for the youth and raised the issue of corruption, asserting that Mr. Doyo would ensure accountability among those in power. Ms. Rajabu also commended past leaders for their decisive actions against corruption, as well as acknowledging President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s leadership adjustments to face developmental hurdles.

Mr. Doyo’s campaign manager, Twaha Saidi Mngatwa, announced that Mr. Doyo plans to submit his application form on March 21, 2025. Subsequently, the NLD’s internal nomination process will occur on April 10, 2025, to select their presidential candidate for the upcoming elections, contingent upon approval from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In summary, Doyo Hassani Doyo’s presidential candidacy presents a significant challenge to the incumbent, Samia Suluhu Hassan, and ACT-Wazalendo’s Dorothy Semu for the upcoming 2025 elections. His campaign focuses on essential issues such as unemployment, education, and corruption, supported by a solid endorsement from his family. As the political landscape evolves, Mr. Doyo’s platform and priorities will play a critical role in shaping the future of Tanzanian governance.
