Malaysia to Host Two Significant International Anti-Corruption Events in July

Malaysia will host the Regional Summer Academy and the International Conference on Governance and Integrity in July, focusing on governance and anti-corruption practices. Announced by Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, these events stem from a recent Bureau meeting in Vienna and aim to enhance Malaysia’s legal framework and international cooperation in anti-corruption efforts.
On March 14, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Legal and Institutional Reforms, announced that Malaysia will host two major international programs in July. The first event is the Regional Summer Academy (RSA), organized in collaboration with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) from July 11 to 14. The second event is the International Conference on Governance and Integrity, set for July 15, in partnership with MACC, IACA, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
Azalina, who serves as the president of the 13th Session of the Assembly of Parties (AoP) of IACA, noted that these events will provide critical platforms to discuss best practices in governance and anti-corruption efforts. She highlighted the importance of strengthening integrity and administrative oversight during her statement. The foundations for these programs were laid during a recent IACA Bureau Meeting held in Vienna, Austria, where Azalina was officially visiting.
During her visit to Vienna, Azalina chaired the first meeting of the Extended Bureau of the Thirteenth Session of the Assembly of Parties of IACA. This Bureau meets quarterly to oversee IACA’s strategic direction and operational management. As the head of the AoP Bureau, consisting of 77 countries and four international organizations, Azalina emphasized its significant role in shaping IACA’s policies and enhancing its function as a global anti-corruption training institution.
She also reported that the Bureau’s agenda included preparations for the forthcoming 14th Session of the AoP scheduled for later in the year. The meeting included participation from Malaysia’s Ambassador to Austria, Ikram Mohammad Ibrahim, along with senior officials from IACA, MACC, and BHEUU. Furthermore, Azalina met with Anna Joubin-Bret, Secretary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), to discuss Malaysia’s ambition to adopt UNCITRAL’s Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency. This aligns Malaysia’s insolvency framework with international best practices and underscores the country’s commitment to legal reform.
In conclusion, Malaysia will host two significant international events this July aimed at enhancing anti-corruption strategies and governance practices. These programs, organized by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the International Anti-Corruption Academy, signal Malaysia’s commitment to fostering integrity and legal innovation in collaboration with international bodies. The discussions initiated in Vienna further illustrate Malaysia’s role in regional cooperation and legal modernization.
