Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, a prominent Nigerian entertainer and politician, has announced his departure from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Tagwaye shared this significant decision through a post on his official Facebook page, expressing his belief that the APC has strayed from its foundational principles and no longer prioritizes the welfare of Nigerians.

In his statement, he declared, “After months of intense consultation and introspection, I, Obinna Simon, AKA MC Tagwaye, have made the bold decision to resign my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).” He elaborated that his choice stems from frustrations with the APC’s insufficient support for loyal members, its outdated leadership structure, and policies that exacerbate hardships for low-income individuals.

Additionally, Tagwaye criticized the APC for its erosion of internal democracy, where a select few dominate party decisions, neglecting the needs and opinions of the majority. He acknowledged, “In stark contrast, the SDP has emerged as a beacon of hope, with its unwavering commitment to the youth, internal democracy, transparency, and accountability.”

Tagwaye noted that the SDP’s vision aligns with his aspirations for a better Nigeria, emphasizing the focus on citizen welfare and progress. He confirmed that he had formally resigned from the APC by notifying his ward chairman and expressed enthusiasm for joining the SDP. He stated, “I am excited to join the SDP and contribute to the party’s mission to build a better Nigeria for all. I urge all Nigerians who share my vision to join me on this journey. Together, we can create a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and our great nation.”
