South Africa Hosts Exhibition Honoring Russian Photojournalist Andrey Stenin

An exhibition showcasing works by winners of the international photo contest named after Russian photojournalist Andrey Stenin is currently being held at the Castle of Good Hope in South Africa. Aleksey Malenko, the Consul General of Russia in Cape Town, participated in the opening ceremony, expressing the exhibition’s significance in enhancing cultural exchange between the countries. He emphasized that Russia and South Africa, as BRICS partners, share a commitment to sustainable development.
Malenko highlighted the role of BRICS beyond political and economic collaboration, stating that it serves as a bridge for cultural exchange that fosters mutual understanding. He noted the increased public interest in the exhibition and its contribution to cultural dialogue.
The exhibition has been organized by Independent Media, IOL, in partnership with TV BRICS and the African News Agency (ANA), with support from Sputnik News Agency. Iqbal Surve, Chairman of Independent Media, remarked on the pivotal role of photojournalism, emphasizing, “A picture tells a thousand words. […] Different sides to a story exist, yet photographs unite us.”
The Andrey Stenin International Press Photo Contest, an annual event open to young photojournalists aged 18 to 33, allows participants to showcase their work globally. Exhibitions of award-winning photographs have previously taken place in numerous countries, including China, Egypt, and Mexico. The exhibition in Cape Town will remain open until March 16.
