Trinidad and Tobago will be represented by Olympians Michelle-Lee Ahye and Tyra Gittens-Spotsville at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, from March 21-23. Michelle-Lee Ahye and Tyra Gittens-Spotsville from Trinidad and Tobago have been selected to compete at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, scheduled for March 21-23. The duo is anticipated to depart Trinidad and Tobago on March 16 and return on March 26.

Gittens-Spotsville has shown promise in the women’s long jump, recording a seasonal best of 6.57 meters, while Ahye has achieved a time of 7.24 seconds in the women’s 60 meters event. Trinidad and Tobago has a commendable history at the World Athletics Indoor Championships, having won a total of seven medals since 1989, which comprise one gold, two silver, and four bronze medals.

In the previous event in 2022, Jereem Richards secured the nation’s only gold medal, excelling in the 400 meters with a time of 45.00 seconds. Ahye also participated, finishing seventh in the women’s 60 meters final. The team will be supported by former national distance runner Paul Voisin, who serves as the team manager and coach, alongside Nicole Fuentes Charles, who will fulfill the role of team medical official.

The National Association of Athletics Administrations of Trinidad and Tobago (NAAATT) issued a media release on March 16, offering their congratulations and best wishes to the team as they prepare for the championships.
