Kalle Rovanpera Eyes Strong Performance at Safari Rally Kenya

Kalle Rovanpera seeks redemption at the Safari Rally Kenya after a difficult start to his season, struggling with new tyres. Currently third in the World Rally Championship standings, he aims to capitalize on his previous successes at this event. Supported by his team and with new strategies, he hopes for a stronger performance to close the gap to the championship leader.
Kalle Rovanpera, the two-time world champion, aims to achieve a much-needed strong performance at the upcoming Safari Rally Kenya. He has acknowledged that the beginning of the season has been challenging, particularly in adapting to the new Hankook control tyres, which are set to be implemented in 2025. As a result, he has yet to finish on the podium, with his highest placements being fourth in Monte Carlo and fifth in Sweden’s snowy stages.
Despite these struggles, Rovanpera currently sits third in the World Rally Championship standings, though he trails leader Elfyn Evans by 30 points. Transitioning to gravel for this rally represents a new opportunity for Rovanpera, who has previously won the event twice in the last four years. He expressed optimism, stating, “Now we go on gravel a new tyre again and something new to learn,” indicating a hope that the gravel tyres will complement his driving style more effectively.
Rovanpera noted the significance of a recent pre-event test in southern Europe, which helped him adapt to the gravel tyres. He remarked on the special nature of the Safari Rally, saying, “The Safari is definitely one of the most special rallies in the season,” and emphasized the team’s collective strength, stating, “We just need to put all the pieces together on our end.”
Toyota’s team principal Jari-Matti Latvala expressed confidence that the gravel tyres would be more suitable for Rovanpera. However, due to commitments, Latvala will not attend the rally, and four-time world champion Juha Kankkunen will fulfill his duties. Rovanpera welcomed this change, appreciating Kankkunen’s experience and positive influence, saying, “It is cool to see him there and I think he always brings really positive feeling.”
Fans can watch the 2025 World Rally Championship through DAZN’s dedicated Rally TV channel, which offers subscriptions separately or as an addition to existing DAZN packages. Rally TV broadcasts every race from both the World Rally Championship and the European Rally Championship this year.
Kalle Rovanpera is determined to turn around his season during the Safari Rally Kenya after a challenging start. He believes the transition to gravel, coupled with the adjustments made with the new tyres, might facilitate a stronger performance. With support from his team and the presence of experienced personnel like Juha Kankkunen, Rovanpera is focused on closing the points gap to the championship leader and achieving a strong result in this prestigious rally.
