A report issued by the Association of Kenyan Insurers (AKI) has revealed that Toyota vehicles top the list of those most likely to be stolen in Kenya. This analysis is drawn from data gathered over the course of 2024, indicating that Toyotas represented 54.91% of all thefts, demonstrating a significant prevalence of this brand among targeted vehicles.
In addition to Toyota, other frequently stolen brands include Isuzu at 12.88%, Mazda at 7.06%, Nissan at 5.83%, and Mitsubishi at 3.99%. Notably, the total number of stolen motor vehicles decreased to 327 in 2024, marking a 28% reduction from the previous year’s figure of 419, which suggests enhanced security measures and greater awareness among owners and law enforcement.
The report emphasizes that although vehicle thefts have declined in Kenya, challenges remain, particularly regarding recovery rates for stolen vehicles. Toyota stands out as the most targeted brand, with specific registration patterns and vehicle body types indicating prevalent theft trends. Continuous vigilance and improved security protocols are essential to mitigate these crimes in the future.
