Libya’s Interior Minister Emad Al-Trabelsi announced plans to create a specialized security force for southern border protection during an emergency meeting. He stressed the need to combat illegal immigration and human trafficking, enhance voluntary repatriation programs, and improve international cooperation. Al-Trabelsi praised ongoing efforts by security agencies and military units in safeguarding Libya’s borders and aligning actions with humanitarian values.

Emad Al-Trabelsi, Libya’s Interior Minister in the Government of National Unity, announced plans to establish a specialized security force dedicated to protecting the country’s southern borders. This announcement was made during an emergency meeting of the High Committee for Combating Illegal Migration and Border Security that he chaired. The meeting aimed to address the government’s response to the recent allegations regarding proposed resettlement of immigrants, as discussed in a meeting led by the Prime Minister the previous Thursday.

During the meeting, Al-Trabelsi pointed out that the challenge of illegal immigration is longstanding, urging that it is crucial to secure the borders, particularly those adjacent to southern nations. He emphasized the need for effective operations against illegal immigration, stressing the dismantling of human trafficking networks and combating smuggling operations, which pose risks to national security.

Furthermore, Al-Trabelsi called for enhanced voluntary repatriation programs for immigrants, stating the importance of collaborating with international partners. He noted that addressing the issue of immigration should encompass both security measures and humanitarian perspectives. Al-Trabelsi praised the existing efforts of security and military units in intercepting human trafficking activities and in protecting Libya’s borders and maritime areas.

He mentioned that these operations have led to the successful interception of numerous human trafficking schemes and the rescue of individuals at sea. Al-Trabelsi concluded by stating, “this work aligns with the teachings of Islam, which call for saving lives, fighting crime, and protecting society, in line with our national and humanitarian values.”

The Libyan Interior Minister’s announcement reflects a proactive approach to enhancing border security by forming a specialized unit aimed at combating illegal immigration and human trafficking. Emphasizing the importance of humanitarian and security efforts, Al-Trabelsi’s initiative seeks to address longstanding challenges while ensuring cooperation with international entities. This strategy underscores Libya’s commitment to safeguarding national interests and upholding humanitarian principles.
