The MTN CHAMPS Benin Athletics Classics featured remarkable performances from Government Model, Delta Secondary School, and Vision High. Delta Secondary dominated the Cadet Girls’ division, while Government Model excelled in both the Cadet and Youth Boys’ categories. Vision High secured the Youth Girls’ title. In the Junior and Senior categories, Delta State and Bayelsa emerged victorious respectively. The next leg is scheduled in Lagos from April 9th to 12th.

The first leg of Season 3 of the MTN CHAMPS held in Benin featured dominant performances from three schools: Government Model, Delta Secondary School, and Vision High. These teams showcased their exceptional talents in various athletics events, solidifying their positions as leading competitors in the tournament.

In the Cadet (U-14) Girls’ division, Delta Secondary School achieved a remarkable victory with a total of 50 points, surpassing Ado Girls who garnered 33 points and placing SAM-KAY in third with 20 points. Contrastingly, Government Model Asaba triumphed in the Cadet Boys’ category, securing 86 points, which doubled the score of Benin Technical at 43 points, with Saint John the Apostle trailing behind with 34 points.

The Youth (U-17) Girls’ category was highlighted by Vision High, who amassed 102 points. Blessing Ezeh significantly contributed to her school’s success by earning 20 points from her victories in the Shot Put and Discus Throw. The Lord’s Own Int’l School finished second with 39 points, while Osadenis claimed third with 31 points.

Continuing their winning streak, Government Model also excelled in the Youth Boys’ division, achieving 58 points, ahead of Beje High School’s 35 points and Vision High’s 28 points. In the Junior (U-20) Team event, Delta State demonstrated remarkable prowess, totaling 162 points, supported by strong performances in the throwing disciplines, particularly from Bosa David Kosisochukwu.

The Senior Team category concluded with a rivalry between Bayelsa and Edo, where Bayelsa emerged victorious with 114 points, while Edo finished with 87 points. Team MTN rounded out the top three with 48 points. Looking ahead, the MTN CHAMPS will transition to Lagos for the second leg scheduled for April 9th to 12th.
