The Somali National Army has achieved recent successes against Al-Shabaab in central and southern Somalia, aided by local forces and international support. Significant operations have resulted in the deaths of numerous militants, underscoring the government’s commitment to defeating the group and restoring stability.

The Somali National Army (SNA) has made significant advancements in its operations against Al-Shabaab in central and southern Somalia. With support from the U.S. Africa Command and the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM), local participation has increased, leading to a strategic recovery of territories aimed at establishing stability in the region.

In a recent operation in Sumadale, Middle Shabelle, approximately 30 Al-Shabaab fighters were eliminated as the national army, alongside local forces, thwarted a planned attack. “National and local forces dealt a major blow to Kharijite militants in Sumadale, Middle Shabelle, today, killing over 30 fighters,” reported state media correspondent Sadam Abdulle, who accompanied the troops during the operation.

Moreover, at Awdheegle, the Somali National Army successfully repelled an assault by Al-Shabaab militants, resulting in considerable losses for the group in both the Awdheegle District and the Buursha Sheekh area. A subsequent operation in the Labada Garas area of Middle Shabelle led to the destruction of a militant hideout, further solidifying gains in the region.

In Bakool, the collaboration between the Somali National Army and local forces resulted in yet another victory, with over 40 Al-Shabaab fighters being killed. This decisive action underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to dismantling the militant group, which has plagued Somalia for nearly twenty years.

The federal government is finalizing deployment arrangements for the AUSSOM, allowing troops from Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Uganda to operate within Somalia, while negotiations are ongoing with Burundi regarding troop levels.

In summary, the ongoing operations led by the Somali National Army and local forces against Al-Shabaab have resulted in significant victories, demonstrating the effectiveness of collaborative efforts with international support. The commitment to expelling the militants from strategic territories illustrates the Somali government’s determination to restore stability after decades of conflict.
