The School of Politics, Policy, and Governance (SPPG) has urged technocrats and professionals to engage in politics to advance governance reform in Nigeria. This call was made through a recent statement announcing the launch of the JoinPolitics campaign, aiming to replace the current compromised ruling class and restore integrity in governance. The SPPG seeks to develop a new generation of political leaders who possess both a values-driven character and substantial competence.
SPPG’s mission includes training 10,000 political leaders over five years through a unique academic program that prepares individuals for legislative and executive positions at both state and federal levels. The initiative aims to equip aspiring leaders with the requisite skills to provide quality choices for the electorate, thus forming a new political class characterized by ethical leadership.
Dr. Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili, the founder and chair of SPPG, emphasized the detrimental effects of prioritizing personal ambition over public service in Nigeria’s leadership landscape.
