China has expressed its desire to participate in Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction, stating that aid will be offered based on the interests of involved parties. Li Ming from China Aid confirmed readiness to assist, linking this initiative to President Zelensky’s comments regarding potential support from China. The reconstruction efforts are expected to cost around USD 524 billion over the next decade.

On Monday, China expressed its intention to engage in the reconstruction efforts in Ukraine following the conflict. This initiative was announced by Li Ming, a spokesperson for the China International Development Cooperation Agency (China Aid), who emphasized that assistance would be provided in alignment with the preferences of the concerned parties.

According to Li, “China is willing to continue to provide assistance to the best of our ability, which also includes participation in the future reconstruction of Ukraine.” His statement came in response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s remarks about China’s potential involvement in peace restoration and reconstruction efforts, made during the three-year anniversary of the Russian invasion.

The estimated total cost for the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine over the next decade stands at approximately USD 524 billion. As of now, Kyiv, with support from its international partners and the private sector, has allocated around USD 13 billion towards recovery needs, as highlighted in a collaborative report by the Ukrainian government, the World Bank Group, the European Commission, and the United Nations.

China’s commitment to aid in Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction aligns with its broader international development goals. With a significant estimated cost of USD 524 billion for recovery, China’s assistance may play a crucial role in rebuilding efforts, particularly following remarks from Ukrainian leadership encouraging such collaboration.
