Chinese Chargé d’Affaires and Zimbabwean Parliament Discuss Legislative Cooperation

On March 12, 2023, Cheng Yan, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, convened with Webster Shamu, the Chairperson of the Zimbabwean Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee. This meeting aimed to discuss the enhancement of exchanges and cooperation between the legislative establishments of China and Zimbabwe. The presence of Counsellor Zhang Yi, further underscored the significance of this diplomatic dialogue.
During the meeting, Cheng Yan provided an overview of the recent sessions of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He elaborated on the implementation of whole-process people’s democracy in China. Cheng emphasized that the year 2025 will mark the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe, expressing optimism for advancing bilateral exchanges and cooperation to align with the agreements made by the respective heads of state and the outcomes of the FOCAC summit in Beijing.
Webster Shamu commended the deep-seated mutual trust and friendship existing between Zimbabwe and China. He reaffirmed the Parliament of Zimbabwe’s commitment to maintaining close ties with the NPC and facilitating robust exchanges. Shamu expressed confidence in the Parliament’s active role in strengthening cooperation across various sectors between the two nations.
