The Coalition of Parents of Students in Private Institutions (COPOSIPI) has implored the Ghanaian government to effectively implement the 2025 budget, emphasizing the importance of leveraging the current public goodwill. By achieving successful execution of the budget, the government has the opportunity to foster trust among citizens, which is beneficial for national development.

COPOSIPI highlighted that previous budgets were inadequately executed, leading to adverse outcomes such as financial instability, diminished stakeholder trust, lack of accountability, and unfulfilled objectives. Dr. Simon Gbene, the Executive Secretary of COPOSIPI, stressed the necessity for effective implementation. He urged the government to recognize and explain challenges transparently while addressing revenue generation issues.

Furthermore, Dr. Gbene acknowledged Ghana’s participation in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program and noted the importance of transparency regarding any constraints imposed by the IMF. He pointed out that the reported Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth figures can be deceptive, citing instances in which past administrations touted significant growth percentages that did not reflect the economic reality.

He criticized previous government claims about GDP growth being artificially driven by illegal mining activities, which have resulted in environmental degradation. He characterized this phenomenon as “toxic growth” and advocated for sustainable development that benefits both the population and the environment, rejecting growth that harms communities and ecosystems.
