Ivory Coast’s Gold Output Projected to Reach Record Levels Amid Sector Growth

Ivory Coast expects record gold output this year, primarily due to the Lafigue mine. Jean-Claude Diplo states production will rise from 58 to 62 metric tons, with projections indicating alignment with Ghana’s output by 2030. Major companies are already active in the region.
Ivory Coast is poised to achieve record-high gold output this year, according to Jean-Claude Diplo, the head of the mining association GPMCI, whose term recently concluded. The anticipated increase in production largely stems from the Lafigue mine, which commenced operation in 2024, as part of a broader effort to enhance its mining sector and diversify income sources.
The Lafigue mine, situated approximately 500 kilometers north of Abidjan, is operated by Endeavour Mining and is projected to yield between 180,000 and 210,000 ounces of gold in 2025. Diplo indicated that gold production in Cote d’Ivoire is expected to rise from 58 metric tons in 2024 to 62 metric tons this year, supported by the ongoing development of the Lafigue mine.
Diplo expressed confidence that the country’s output would surpass that of neighboring Mali and Burkina Faso and reach levels comparable to those of Ghana in the near future. He remarked, “We have the potential to go very fast… If we are disciplined, as we are today, we will be on a par with Ghana in 2030, according to our projections.” Currently, prominent mining enterprises such as Barrick Gold, Perseus Mining, and Roxgold operate within the region.
In summary, Ivory Coast is on track to achieve its highest gold output ever, largely driven by the Lafigue mine’s production. The country aims to surpass regional competitors and align itself with Ghana’s output by 2030, following strategic investments and enhanced operational discipline within its mining sector.
