Kyrgyzstan supports Azerbaijan and Armenia’s negotiation of a draft peace agreement, viewing it as a historic development for their relations. The country encourages long-term peace in the South Caucasus and acknowledges constructive dialogue efforts. Both nations are addressing last controversial points of the treaty, following a prior conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Kyrgyz Republic has expressed its support for the recent announcements made by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both Azerbaijan and Armenia regarding the conclusion of negotiations for a draft peace agreement. This statement, issued by the Foreign Ministry, emphasizes the importance of this agreement as a pivotal development in the relations between the two nations.

Kyrgyzstan advocates for lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus and commends the constructive approach taken by both Azerbaijan and Armenia in normalizing their relations. The Foreign Ministry conveyed optimism regarding the ongoing process of establishing interstate relations.

Prior reports indicated Armenia’s willingness to engage in discussions concerning the terms and venue for signing the peace agreement with Azerbaijan. The Armenian Foreign Ministry confirmed that an agreement has been reached on the draft text, and both parties are keen to initiate discussions about the signing logistics.

It is noted that the two republics had struggled to resolve two critical points within the peace agreement out of a total of 17 points for several months. These unresolved issues pertain to the mutual withdrawal of legal claims and the commitment to refrain from deploying third-party forces along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.

This peace initiative follows the previous turmoil over Nagorno-Karabakh, which reached a conclusion in 2023, resulting in Azerbaijan regaining complete control over the region. The current diplomatic efforts mark a significant step towards reconciliation and stability in the region.

In summary, Kyrgyzstan has applauded the progress made by Azerbaijan and Armenia in negotiating a draft peace agreement, highlighting the importance of establishing interstate relations. The commitment to achieving long-term peace in the South Caucasus is underscored, while remaining issues have been acknowledged as part of the ongoing peace process following the recent conflict. This movement towards reconciliation represents a crucial development in regional stability.
