Mongolian Judokas Depart for Tbilisi for the Fourth Judo Grand Slam of 2025

The fourth Grand Slam tournament of 2025, organized by the IJF, will be held in Tbilisi from March 21-23. Over 400 judokas from 53 countries will compete, with Mongolia fielding a team of 20 athletes. Mongolia has a history of achieving medals in this event, and the current team aims to improve upon their recent performances.
The fourth Grand Slam tournament of the year, sanctioned by the International Judo Federation (IJF), is scheduled to occur in Tbilisi, Georgia, from March 21 to 23, 2025. This prestigious event has attracted over 400 judokas from 53 countries, setting a record for participation compared to previous Grand Slams in 2025, including Paris with 50 countries, Baku with 36, and Tashkent with 23.
The Mongolian Judo delegation, comprising 20 athletes (11 men and 9 women), is headed by Coach Erdenebaatar Uuganbayar, along with Coaches Nyamlkhagva Purevdorj, Boldbaatar Chimed-Yondon, and Boldbaatar Ganbat. In the men’s division, competitors include K. Yolk and E. Ariunbold in the 60 kg category, Yo. Baskhuu and U. Byambasuren in 66 kg, O. Uranbayar and L. Ankhzaya at 73 kg, O. Shinebayar in 81 kg, Ts. Gan-Erdene and B. Munkhbayar in 90 kg, B. Khuderchuluun in the -100 kg category, and B. Gonchigsuren in +100 kg.
On the women’s side, G. Narantsetseg and J. Anudari will compete in 48 kg, while M. Nandin-Erdene and Ts. Gal-Od are scheduled for 52 kg. M. Ichinkhorloo and T. Ariunzaya will represent Mongolia in the 57 kg division, followed by D. Yesui in 70 kg, A. Dulamsuren in -78 kg, and A. Adiyasuren in +78 kg.
Historically, Mongolia has achieved significant success in this tournament. In 2021, M. Urantsetseg and Ts. Tsogt-Ochir, both Honored Athletes, won gold medals, while G. Kherlen and G. Altanbagana captured bronze. Although Mongolia did not participate in the 2022 tournament, in 2023, B. Erdenebayar earned gold, with Yo. Baskhuu and B. Gonchigsuren winning silver and G. Narantsetseg taking bronze. Last year’s event saw all 12 Mongolian judokas participating, but unfortunately, none secured medals.
The upcoming Judo Grand Slam in Tbilisi represents a notable event in the judo calendar, showcasing a record number of international competitors.
