MotoGP will return to Brazil in 2026 after an agreement with the Ayrton Senna circuit, which has hosted its first event ahead of next year’s race. Dorna officials acknowledge the need for improvements at the circuit yet express enthusiasm over the local support and potential of the track to be one of the fastest on the calendar.

MotoGP is preparing to return to Brazil in 2026, marking a significant milestone since its last race in the country in 2004. The Ayrton Senna circuit in Goiania had its first MotoGP event on Monday, following a five-year agreement announced in December between MotoGP and the track. Previously, MotoGP raced at this circuit from 1987 to 1989, with notable victories from riders such as Wayne Gardner and Kevin Schwantz.

Despite the excitement surrounding the return, Dorna’s chief sporting officer, Carlos Ezpeleta, emphasized the need for improvements at the circuit within the next year. He stated, “We’re super happy, we think it’s been a great event… The layout is a layout made for MotoGP. Of course, there’s a lot of things the circuit has to do in the next 12 months but we’re really happy.” The event showcased MotoGP stars, including Franco Morbidelli and Luca Marini, who engaged with fans and rode around the circuit.

Dorna CCO Dan Rossomondo remarked on the vibrant support from local fans and the importance of building on this enthusiasm. He noted, “It’s great to see the support and it’s great to see that there is an audience here, we just have to build on that.” The strong passion exhibited by Brazilian fans underscored the excitement for MotoGP’s return.

Franco Morbidelli, a rider with Brazilian roots, affirmed the enthusiasm for MotoGP in Brazil, stating that the event demonstrated strong local interest. Luca Marini described the circuit as potentially one of the fastest tracks on the calendar, adding that “maybe the average speed is the fastest in the MotoGP calendar.” He expressed confidence in delivering an unforgettable experience for fans.

The return of MotoGP to Brazil in 2026 is marked by renewed enthusiasm and a commitment to upgrades at the Ayrton Senna circuit. While the event showcased strong fan support and a potential for high-speed racing, several enhancements are required to ensure a successful race. Dorna officials and riders alike are optimistic about the circuit’s prospects and the passionate Brazilian fanbase, setting the stage for an exciting future in motorsport in the country.
